Turbocharging Fiat FIRE Engines

This site is dedicated to the Fiat/Lancia FIRE engine family, this means you will only find Engine/Drivetrain related info on this site. If you want car specific info you should look at other Fiat related forum found on the web, the best I have found is www.fiatforum.com .

Quick Information

Project 1242cc 8V fire turbo was never completed since I never had a functional Punto 75 ECU. The engine was fully rebuilt and sold.
Project 999cc fire turbo (carb) on paper it's producing 82hp but the full power run actually showed 162hp at the wheels.
Project 999cc fire turbo (MPI) has been completed, the page will remain online for anyone interested on the info it contains.
Turbo kits have been cancelled. More information can be found here.

Forum-The response to the forum has been good with a few members already registered. This is only to make it easier for people doing similar projects to exchange information about what works best or some question of interest only to those interested in forced induction. Asking these questions on other forums is short of pointless as most people would have no clue as to what you're asking or even why you would ask such a question. The way I see it people should only use the forum for subjects directly related to this site and ask everything else on other forums. Someone as pointed out that there aren't a lot of forums dedicated to Fiats and much less to a specific engine family, they also say that this would become a great site to know the limits of stock parts for power builds.THIS IS OFFLINE.
EFI Conversion- This was the work I did when I converted my 1L fire engine to MPI, this may not be online for a while since I or anyone around here has the time to finish the write up on it.
FAQ - There have been a few additions to the FAQ section.
How-To Page- This page has been added under the FAQ section, let's see how it goes.
Picture Gallery- This is where I'll place pics that people may be interested in but have no place else where. This is no place for people on dial-up or even slow DSL connections since it contains hundreds of thumbnails on one page. I've tried to make them all vga quality for fast loads. Sorry for any inconvenience, individual pics can be accessed from the site index though.

Project updates

As some of you already know I have concluded my research into turbocharging a stock 999cc fire engine, the only modifications done were the MPI conversion and the necessary modifications to install the turbo, the compression ratio was stock at 9.8 using the stock pistons. My conclusion was that it is not reliable past 150hp and broke a piston on a 168hp dyno run. Pics can be seen here. The engine still started and would run on three cylinders after the incident, it was a compression test that gave it away.

I have now begun a new project on a 1108cc fire SPI, this project actually fell into my lap literally. The owner of the car heard some of the guys taking about my conversions at a track day and enquired about it. The only reason I took on this project was because I had never worked on a stock Fiat SPI system before (1108cc 8V), so it will give me a chance to test whether or not it is feasible to adapt my secondary fuel strategy . The best way would be to remap the stock ECU to compensate for the turbo ( this would require larger injectors and larger MAP sensor), the problem however is that I have not heard of anyone releasing the Eprom files from a Fiat yet, neither do I know the address mapping used on these Eprom chips. If anyone has any of this information or wants to help in this are please contact me.
